It is too cold to be out carving stone, so I am working with clay indoors by the fire to stay warm. These will eventually be cast in bronze. I am nearing completion of a horse rearing up that will go on a beautiful travertine stone pedestal I found in Santa Fe, NM. It is about 55" tall. The horse will be a painted pony with native markings and is about 20" tall if I remember correctly. And also I am getting near complete with the first phase of a Plains Indian capturing a Golden Eagle for its feathers. I hope once this piece is done the viewer will wonder who has whom, as these warriors would not have used weapons of any kind to acquiring their quarry!
A seasoned warrior in the act of gathering Golden Eagle feathers. Note the scares on his chest from active participation in the Sun Dance Ceremony, a gift of suffering to his god. A warrior would only be permitted to gather and then wear these sacred feathers after achieving honor in battle and the approval of elders in his tribe.
